The 2014 IRTS AGM hosted By The GALWAY VHF GROUP

March 22nd & 23rd 2014

The IRTS AGM and Rally will take place in the GALWAY BAY HOTEL on Sunday 23rd of March 2014 hosted by the Galway VHF Group. The Rally promises to be bigger than ever. Long standing and many news traders will attend.

There will be no charge for tables in the Trading area. Each individual trading at a table will be charged just the admission fee of 5 Euro per person. The IRTS Annual Dinner will take place in the Galway Bay Hotel at 8pm on the Saturday night and tickets for this will be available at 35 Euro from Steve EI5DD.

Tickets for the IRTS Dinner may be obtained from any committee member of the IRTS or from Steve EI5DD (0872451218). A special rate for accommodation is available from the Galway Bay Hotel if you mention the IRTS AGM Weekend when booking on 091 520520.


Time to Return IRTS Trophies and Cups

All recipients of awards and cups given out at last years IRTS AGM in Athlone are requested to return their Trophies / Cups in good time to allow for engraving for the forthcoming IRTS AGM 2014.

Trophies/Cups maybe returned to the IRTS stand at the forthcoming Coolmine Rally on Sunday February 16th or to any IRTS Committee member before 28th February 2014.


Nominations for IRTS Awards 2014

You are invited to nominate a person to receive an award for “Service to the IRTS or Amateur Radio.” The nominations in this category are open to persons who are an IRTS member and or non-member. All nominations are welcome.

Under the category “Awards for other Achievement”, you may nominate IRTS members only. Awards in this category include the 4Metre and 6metre Shields; the SWL award and the awards for Quality Construction Projects.

When you are considering a person for nomination to receive an award please refer to previous winners and this maybe viewed on www.irts.ie/cgi/awards.cgi

Nominations may be from clubs or individuals and must be submitted by post or e-mail, and can be forwarded to Jim Holohan, EI4HH, Chairman Awards Committee, QTHR, or email awards /at/ irts.ie.

Closing date for nominations is February 28th 2014.


Cork Radio Club

The first meeting of Cork Radio Club in 2014 will feature an illustrated talk by John Hearne EI2FG on “The Saorview Installation Project” on Tuesday January 21st at 20.00. Saorview is the national digital terrestrial television (DTT) service in Ireland and is owned and operated by 2RN (RTÉ Networks).

The meeting will be held at the Community Centre, Main Street in Carrigtwohill and non-members are cordially invited to attend. Enquiries to Cormac EI4HQ on 086-3886353.


West Tyrone Amateur Radio Club (WTARC)

For our listeners in Northern Ireland, the venue for the next “Foundation” course will take place in the Technology Centre, Spillers Place, Omagh. The course will be held on two consecutive Saturday’s, 15th and 22nd February 2014 followed by an evening exam on the 24th February 2014.

All course materials will be provided. There is a fee of £50.00, which covers the full course and a small exam. You can download an application form from the WTARC website, www.wtarc.net Registration for the foundation course will take place on 4th February at the club monthly meeting.


Phoenix Amateur Radio Annual Rally

Phoenix Amateur Radio Club will hold their annual Coolmine Radio Rally in Coolmine Community School, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 will take place on Sunday February 16th 2014. Doors open at 11am and admission is €5.00. For table bookings please contact Tony on 087 2439997.


Limerick – Radio Theory Classes

Radio theory classes in preparation for the next Amateur Station License will begin in January 2014. The classes will be held in Limerick City, and anyone from Region 4, which comprises Clare, Kerry, Limerick & Tipperary, are welcome to attend. DX News

Pedro ON7WP and Dirk ON5OF are QRV from Gambia signing C5WP until 22 January. There has not been too much activity from C5 in recent times so this is an opportunity to log a new one.

JA3ARJ and JA1CJA plan to be active as TO3JA from Martinique from 13 – 19 January. QSLs go via JA3AVO.

Toshi JA8BMK hopes to operate holiday-style as XW8BM from mid-January until the end of the month. He will be based in Vientiane the capital of Laos.

A major multi-national team will activate Amsterdam Island using the callsign FT5ZM from 24 January until 12 February. Amsterdam Island is located in the southern Indian Ocean. There is a French Research Station located on the island. According to the ClubLog most wanted list of DXCC entities it stands at #7 so expect big pile-ups when the DXpedition comes on the air.


Declan EI9HQ

Declan EI9HQ will be out on Sunday next, 19th January doing squares around Carlow and Kilkenny starting around 10.00. He will be on or between 7.160khz and 7.170khz and hopes to hear you on the band.
