AMsat UK – FunCube Satellite

On Thursday last November 21st AMsat UK launched their FunCube satellite. This is a project aimed at schools science programmes. IRTS met with the European Space Agency (ESA) a couple of years ago with a view to putting together a transition year programme. As the IRTS involvement is still at the ’entry level’ proposal stage, we need people who are eager to get involved. Are you interested? Mayo Radio Experimenters Network

The Mayo Radio Rally 2013 has come and gone for another year. We wish to thank all who attended Sundays rally including the traders, and of course all the individuals who took the time to visit the rally and everybody who helped in any way to make it another great success. Our Special thanks go to Adrian at the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar. Their help and assistance over the weekend was superb. We look forward to doing it all over again in 2014.


IRTS Region 4 Radio Theory Classes

Radio Theory classes in preparation for the next Amateur Station License Examination will begin in January 2014. The classes will be held in Limerick City, and anyone from Region 4, which comprises Clare, Kerry, Limerick & Tipperary, are welcome to attend. Tipperary Amateur Radio Group AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Tipperary Amateur Radio Group will be held at Raheen House Hotel, Clonmel on Wednesday the 27th of November 2013 at 8pm. This is the most important meeting of the calender year and all group members are asked to attend. Short Wave Listeners are in particular very welcome. The latest edition of The 5 MHz Newsletter - No 8 Autumn 2013 - is now available. As well as the latest 5 MHz news, there are also features on emcom messaging with an international dimension, RSGB 5 MHz consultation, new URL for Hack Green SDR, more 5 MHz Analysis, South African 60m Activity Weekend with temporary Beacon and 5 MHz crystals. Phoenix Amateur Radio Annual Rally

Phoenix Amateur Radio Club are pleased to announce that the annual Coolmine Radio Rally in Coolmine Community School, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 will take place on Sunday February 16th 2014. Doors open at 11am and admission is €5.00. For table bookings please contact Tony on 087 2439997.


DX News

Tim NL8F will be active as T32TM from East Kiribati from 28 November until 4 December. He will then be joined by other members of the Russian Robinson Club (N7RO, KW7XX and AH6HY) and the club call of T32RC will be used until 11 December. This DXpedition is in honour of the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Russian Robinson Club. Activity will be on all bands 160 – 10m on SSB, CW and RTTY. QSL Manager is N7RO.

West Kiribati will also available from 28 November – 4 December. Here the operators JF1CCH and JA1FUF will sign T30TS and T30KN respectively. They will run 100w to a dipole on all bands 40 – 10m. QSLs go via the home calls.

Mats SM6LRR will be operating holiday style from Vietnam as XV2LRR from 29 November until 14 December. He will be QRV on all bands 40 – 10m. QSL to his home call.

Rob DL7VOA will operate as 6V7D in Senegal from 29 November until 7 December. He plans to be QRV from the beach during the evening and night hours. QSLs go via the home call.
