Talk on DXpedition to St. Kilda

At the South Dublin Radio Club QTH, on Tuesday last, Declan EI6FR gave a talk on his participation in the recent DXpedition to the island of St. Kilda, which is EU-059 for IOTA hunters. Declan was one of a group of 6 radio amateurs who spent 5 days on this remote island in the Outer Hebrides during May 2012. The island is now a World Heritage Site and is maintained by the National Trust for Scotland. In order to preserve the island's natural heritage, the radio operation was carefully corralled into one small area, with restrictions on power used and antenna types. Declan's presentation covered the logistical and technical aspects of the island activation as well as the fascinating history of the island, which supported a resident population up to the 1930s.
