IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday June 24th 2007
Condolences
We are very sorry to have to tell you of the death of Maurice Moore of Kilmeedy Co. Limerick the father of Dave EI4BZ. Maurice was taken ill and died suddenly in hospital early on Friday the 15th of June.
Dave was on his way by car to the continent for a holiday, which would have included the Friedrichshafen rally. He was just outside London early on the Friday morning when he got a telephone call about the sudden death of his father. He returned home and the funeral was held on Monday last. To Dave and to his family we extend our deepest sympathy and may Maurice rest in peace.
International Museums Weekend
International Museums Weekend took place on Saturday and Sunday last. The Howth Martello Radio Group activated EI0MAR from the vintage radio museum in Howth. Band conditions weren't good, however those who attended enjoyed a very sociable event. After the station went QRT on Saturday, some of the group QSYed to the Yacht in Clontarf to end the day suitably with a meal.
The Howth Peninsula Festival takes place next weekend and EI0MAR will once again be active on Sunday and possibly Saturday. Many of the events taking place during the festival are family orientated with open-air music, dancing, magic and puppet shows. A full listing of events is available at howthpeninsula.com.
AFRI75
During the IRTS Jubilee expedition to Swaziland the team met with the Scout Association and agreed to support their Thirst for Life Programme, which helps Aids orphans in Swaziland. You will find details of the project on the Afri75 page of the IRTS website. The team is pleased to announce that the first initial funding for the project of 350 Euro is on its way to Swaziland and this will fund the purchase of chickens for their farm. The money was raised by donations included with direct QSL cards received from stations worked around the world, together with funds raised from the sale of Afri75 caps at the AGM in Cork. The team are still anxious to continue support for the project, and if you think you can help please contact Paul EI2CA.
Hong Kong Special Prefix
Approval has been granted for the use of the Special Prefix "VR10" in addition to "VR2" for Hong Kong Radio Amateurs starting from the 1st of July 2007 to the 30th of June 2008 for the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's reunification with China.

HARTS is also going to use the special callsign "VR10HK" as HARTS HQ Station especially during the IARU HF Contest (14-15/7/2007).

2 Metre News Bulletin
Tony, EI5EM paid a visit to Sean, EI5GH regular Sunday two-metres newsreader last Friday. Sean has been ill now for several months in St. Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin. Sean was in good form and was glad to receive all the latest news from Tony who passed on the good wishes of all those who listen to the news. Sean sends his regards to all and hopefully he will be well enough soon to return home.
Tony and John EI7JG have been trying to keep the news going during Sean's absence on an ad hoc basis. Unfortunately, both will be away next weekend and this means that there probably will be no two-metre news next Sunday. Normal service should be resumed the following week. Perhaps there are some other operators out there who would like to assist in keeping this long-standing service going. The IRTS would be glad to hear from any volunteers.
Limerick Radio Club
Limerick Radio Club has been invited by the Foynes Flying-Boat Museum to operate a special Amateur Radio Station in conjunction with the commemorative Transatlantic Re-Enactment Flight 1937 from Newfoundland Canada to Foynes Ireland. A special call sign has been allocated to the station EI-70-FOY. The station will be on the air from the 6th to the 8th of July 2007. On HF the station will operate from 80 to 10 metres. It will also operate on VHF / UHF using the EI70FOY call sign.
A special QSL card, commemorating the Re-Enactment Flight, will be sent to all stations worked over the three-day event. All QSL cards should be sent to the Club’s QSL Manager Alan Cronin EI8EM at QTHR. Limerick Radio Club can be contacted at “ei4lrc at eircom dot net” or at www.qsl.net/ei4lrc
South Eastern Amateur Radio Group
The next general meeting will take place on Monday the 25th of June at 8.00 p.m. in the Roanmore Centre, Waterford.
A portion of the meeting will be for all operators who have volunteered their services for the cycle race on the 1st of July and those operators who will be assisting are urged to attend so that radio protocol and equipment requirements etc. can be discussed.
Foyle and District Amateur Radio Club
Foyle and District Amateur Radio Club, Bready, Strabane, Co. Tyrone will be heading to St. Angelo Airport, Enniskillen for the 2007 Jet World Masters competition. The competition itself runs from the 5th to the 14th of July. The club station will be on the air during the weekend July the 13th and 14th using the club's callsign MN0AKU/P.
This event is the ultimate radio-controlled model aircraft competition. These model planes are capable of speeds up to 250 miles per hour. One hundred pilots from 31 countries will be taking part in this competition. More information can be found on their website www.jwm2007.com
The club wishes to express its gratitude to all the operators who contacted them during the 2 days of their Amelia Earhart special event station on May the 20th and 21st. Comeragh Cycle Race
The national under 23 road racing championship will take place in Waterford on the 1st of July. Richie EI9HR is event Co-ordinator and he is being assisted by John EI8JA. This year’s race will be on a greater scale with over 160 riders taking part. The Civil Defence have come on board this year to help with marshalling and RTE will be filming the event.
AREN will provide the communications for safe traffic management and accident reporting. There will be more radio reporting points and mobile stations than last year so more radio operators are required. Again newcomers are welcome and training will be provided on the morning of the race. This is an excellent opportunity for operators to put their radio skills to good use in a very enjoyable and rewarding way for the benefit of the Community. All operators irrespective of experience are welcome.

Rallies
The Cork Radio Club Rally will take place on Sunday the 23rd of September in the Blarney Park Hotel, Blarney, Co. Cork, the Waterford Rally will take place on the 21st of October 2007 in the Woodlands Hotel, Waterford and the Mayo Radio Rally will be on Sunday the 18th of November in the Belmont Hotel, Knock, Co. Mayo.
