The AFRI 75 web page is available on the IRTS web site at www.irts.ie/afri75

Daniel Hubbard ZS6JR, who is providing the equipment in Swaziland for the Afri75 DXpedition, will be testing it on Friday the 23rd and Saturday 24th of February using the following times;

1800 UTC on 14.208 MHz, 1900 UTC on 7.058 MHz and 2000 UTC 1.848 MHz. If there is no response on 160 metres then he will try again at 20:15 on 3.788 MHz.

There will be a possible variation in the proposed frequencies.

It is hoped to have everything operational by Friday the 23rd of February. He will be testing new equipment and may not have everything up and running by the Friday evening, but will repeat the above schedule for Saturday evening. This may also be interrupted by the occasional electrical storm.

Callsign will be 3DA0WW and Daniel will ask occasionally for EI stations the other hams that will be with him are, Mac ZS6BDS and HAL ZS6WB who may also wish to operate for short periods. EI's might care to be QRV to hear how he sounds or reply to his calls for EI.

AREN News

On the 20th of January, National Co-ordinator of AREN, John Ketch (EI2GN), accompanied by Assistant co-ordinator John Ronan (EI7IG) attended the Irish Mountain Rescue Conference. Core to the presentation by the Lakeland Mountain Rescue team, was a discussion on "GPS real-time mapping of search parties". The presentation by Dave Binks highlighted their initial experiments with APRS, and then, due to restrictions of their licensing conditions, how they developed, with the support of Team Simoco, a GPS mapping solution targeted towards Mountain Rescue. It was a very informative presentation as was the subsequent chat. AREN would like to thank SEMRA for extending the invitation for AREN delegates to attend.

Coverage testing for a proposed new repeater site west of Clonakilty will be carried out in the coming week. This will involve mobile operation on the 2 Metre band from predefined locations on a specific route. A minimum of three operators and 3 drivers will be required. Any members interested in helping out should contact Conor EI4JN.
