IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday May 28th 2000


CW Field Day

The annual CW Field Day will be held over next weekend. It runs from 1500utc on Saturday June 3rd until 1500utc on Sunday June 4th.

As usual there are two sections, open and restricted. The restricted section may only use one aerial with a maximum height of 35 feet. There are no limits in the open section.

The IARU Region One six metre contest is also being held next weekend.

This contest runs for 24 hours from 1400utc on Saturday June 3rd until 1400utc on Sunday the 4th.

Dublin QRP Club

The Annual General Meeting of the Dublin QRP Club was held recently and a decision was made to change their meetings to Thursday nights with immediate effect. They meet weekly from 8.30 p.m.at the Marino Institute of Education in Griffith Avenue in Dublin 9. The officers for the coming year are as follows:-

Chairman - John Ryan EI6DG; Secretary – John Moloney EI1CY; Treasurer – Naish Kelly EI3ID and Station Manager Ron EI4AR.

Celticon 2000, a QRP Radio Convention, will be held at the Marino Institute on September 1st to 3rd next. Booking forms are available by writing to the Institute at the above address or by telephoning May Ralph on 01-8335111.


IRTS Represented at Dayton

John Corless EI7IQ, IRTS Vice President and Secretary and Padraig Barnes EI6FWB visited the Dayton Hamvention last weekend.

Over the weekend, John met with the Presidents of ARRL, RSGB, RAC and a senior JARL Officer.

They were guests at the Irish American dinner and met many of the well known names from the Irish Hour net on Sundays.

There was a very visible campaign against the reduction of the Morse Code requirements to five words per minute and there was lots of positive feed back on the IRTS policy.

WestNet on Inishmaan The WestNet/Saltee Dog DX Group will be active from Inishmaan in the Aran Island Group from June 22nd to the 26th inclusive.

The callsign will be EJ7NET.

The Aran Islands are EU-006 for the Islands On The Air programme.

Terenure Radio Club Rally

Terenure Radio Club would like to thank everyone who attended their rally last Sunday, particularly the traders.

Congratulations to Mark O'Leary EI5EFB from Currabinny in County Cork who sat the Morse test and was successful.


Mayo Radio Experimenters Network

The monthly meeting of the Mayo Group will be held on Wednesday June the 7th at the usual venue, The Wishing Well in Ballyvary.

A big turnout is expected to plan the invasion of Clew Bay for the Worked All Ireland Islands Activity Days on June the 17th and 18th.

Other items on the agenda include a demonstration of PSK31 and a new portable aerial system.

A video of the trip to Dayton may also be shown.


South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The next general meeting of the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will take place on Wednesday next the 31st of May at 8.00pm in the usual venue at the Roanmore GAA, Social & Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford.

WAI Islands Weekend

The Worked All Ireland Island Activity weekend will be held over the third weekend in June, that’s the 17th and 18th.

Activity notified to date is from the Mayo Group and the East Cork Group.

News of plans by any other Groups would be very welcome.


Dates for your Diary

The VHF/UHF Field Day will be held over the first weekend in July on the 1st and 2nd.

The International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend will be held on August 19th and 20th. If you want to get involved, please inform Mike GM4SUC at gm4suc@compuserve.com The Marino Institute of Education in Dublin will host Celticon 2000 – a QRP Radio Convention on September 1st to 3rd next.

The IRTS AGM next year will be held in Limerick on April the 7/8th.
