IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday May 21st 2000


CW Field Day

The annual CW Field Day will be held over the June bank holiday weekend in two weeks time. It runs from 1500utc on Saturday June 3rd until 1500utc on Sunday June 4th.

As usual there are two sections, open and restricted. The restricted section may only use one aerial with a maximum height of 35 feet. There are no limits in the open section.

Joe Ryan EI7GY won the restricted section last year and the open section was won by the East Cork Group EI7M.


IRTS Committee Meeting

The first meeting of the new IRTS committee was held in Athlone on Saturday May the 6th. The main item on the agenda was the filling of the various posts that keep the society running smoothly from day to day.

Peter Grant EI4HX is chairman of the awards sub-committee and he will also look after book sales and the Y2K callsigns. Sean EI7CD and Martin EI4IJ make up the awards sub-committee with Peter.

Paul EI6FE will look after EMC affairs and he is also rally co-ordinator. John EI6IR is the Contest Manager and Joe EI3IX is VHF Manager and packet co-ordinator. Sean EI4GK, as well as being treasurer, will look after external affairs with responsibility for IARU and Eurocom and both external and WEIC awards.

Joe EI7GY will continue to look after the membership records and Kevin EI7IM is publications manager.

Mike EI2CL is responsible for PO Box 462 and sorting the incoming QSL cards while the outgoing bureau will be looked after by Bill EI5GQ.

Liam EI7FE is A.R.E.N. co-ordinator and Danny EI6GS continues as IARU monitoring service co-ordinator and Irish language Officer.

Sean EI4GK will look after Morse testing and Dan EI3AE is Chief Morse tester. The Worked All Ireland Awards Manager is Tom EI2GP and Noel EI6HW will look after the WAI Book distribution.

Jim EI3DP continues as video library manager and the radio news team remains unchanged as Dave EI4BZ, Hilary EI4IE and John EI8IR.

We will look at the incoming QSL managers in next weeks bulletin.

The next meeting of the IRTS committee will be held on June the 10th in Athlone at 1100. The venue will be announced later.


Six Metre Contest

EI operators working towards the new IRTS six metres award can avail of the IARU Region One six metre contest being held over the June bank holiday weekend.

This contest runs for 24 hours from 1400utc on Saturday June 3rd until 1400utc on Sunday the 4th.

There are two categories, single operator and multi-operator and logs must be submitted to the IRTS VHF Manager by June the 19th.

Anyone interested in entering should read the rules carefully.

WAI Islands Weekend

The Worked All Ireland Island Activity weekend will be held over the third weekend in June, that’s the 17th and 18th.

Mayo Club members are planning trips to some of the many islands off the Mayo coast while in East Cork, Cormac EI4HQ and John EI8IR will activate Capel Island and Eddie EI6GJ and Dave EI4BZ will operate from Ballycotton Island, both operations on Sunday the 18th.

This activity weekend is intended to help operators get the necessary islands for the Worked All Ireland Award Scheme.

We would appreciate hearing from anyone planning a trip to an island.


North Dublin Radio Club

The Annual General Meeting of the North Dublin Radio Club will be held in the club’s premises in Chanel College, Coolock at 9 p.m. on Saturday next and all members are requested to attend.

Club members are currently involved in a special project constructing audio SWR meters for use by the visually impaired. Funding has been provided by the EI5HAM group and NDR members are offering their services and expertise for this worthwhile cause.

Plans for the summer include the VHF/UHF Field Day and details on this and on other planned activities can be got on the NDR net on S23 on Mondays at 2230.

The club will use the special call EI2MM for the September SSB Field Day.

NDR meetings continue during the summer and visitors are always welcome at Chanel College, Coolock any Monday night from 2000.


Dates for your Diary

The Worked All Ireland Island Activity weekend will be held over the third weekend in June.

The International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend will be held on August 19th and 20th. If you want to get involved, please inform Mike GM4SUC at gm4suc@compuserve.com The Marino Institute of Education in Dublin will host Celticon 2000 – a QRP Radio Convention on September 1st to 3rd next.

The Shannon River Run will be held in Mid September. Details from Paul EI2CA on 087-2523908 or Keith EI4FBB on 01-6412148 during office hours The Cork Rally will be held in the Blarney Park Hotel on Sunday September the 17th.

The IRTS AGM next year will be held in Limerick on April the 7/8th.
